The Book of Kells

The Book of Kells, at Trinity College in Dublin, was originally a single volume but was rebound in four volumes in 1953 for conservation reasons. Two volumes are normally on display - one opened at a major decorated page, the other at a text opening.

Because the Washington-Centerville Public Library facsimile edition is bound into one volume, two pages will be viewable each week at Centerville Library:

• The pages of the book will be turned every Monday.
• A major decorated page will be displayed during the first full week of each calendar month.
• During March and December, a major page will be displayed for the entire month.
• A minor decorated page will be displayed on the remaining weeks, turning chronologically from the beginning of the book until the end.
• Facts about the book, the pages or the times will be displayed near the book, with information provided for the casual observer as well as for those with a more scholarly interest. An archive of facts and page descriptions will be kept on this Web site.

The Library reserves the right to change the page calendar at any time without prior notice for purposes related to library programming and events.
