WiFi Hotspot at the Library
You've always been able to connect to the library from the world, using this Web site.

Now you can connect to the world from the library, using your laptop or mobile device - both of our library buildings are free WiFi hotspots!

What equipment do I need?

  • A mobile device with a wireless network card compatible with IEEE standard 802.11b or 802.11g
  • An Internet browser to browse the Internet
  • Headphones if you plan on using audio files. Speakers are not permitted for use in the library
Do I need a library card?
No, you do not need a library card to use this service. However, minor children may be asked to show a library card with parental permission.

Is there a fee?
No. WiFi is provided thanks to state and local tax support.

Can I search the catalog and databases?
Yes! Follow these links to our catalog and collection of databases.

Is the network secure?
The Library's WiFi network is an open public access network and is not secured. Information sent across the WiFi network can be intercepted by others. For sensitive information, use of SSL encrypted Web pages is recommended. WiFi users should maintain software to protect against viruses and spyware. The Library is not responsible for loss of information or equipment damage.

Can I print?
Wirelss printing is available at the Woodbourne Library only. If you need to print at the Centerville Library, please save your work to a removable media and then sign up to use one of the Library's Information Stations to print the information. If you would like to print from your laptop at the Woodbourne Library, please follow these instructions.

Where can I get help?
Library staff cannot support or provide assistance for equipment or software owned by others. For further assistance, please refer to your owner's manuals.

How do I connect?

  1. Configure your computer or other wireless device's TCP/IP settings to use DHCP. You may need to change these settings back when you leave the library to connect to other networks.
  2. Ensure that your wireless card is enabled and supports a connection using one of the following wireless protocols: 802.11b, 802.11g.
  3. You may need to set the SSID on your network card to WCPL.
  4. Start your Web browser. You must first connect to our network using your Web browser before you will be able to access the Internet using any protocol.
  5. Read and accept the Internet Access and Use Policy. Accepting the policy will register your computer on our network and enable your access to the Internet.
Please Note!
The Library is not responsible for computers left unattended. Do not place any cords across walkways or other areas that could cause harm to or block access for patrons or staff.

Are there any restrictions on WiFi use?
WiFi Internet access is filtered. For more information on filtering and acceptable uses, please view the Internet Access and Use Policy. Any violation of this policy may mean suspension of privileges. Patrons should also be sensitive to the fact that Internet screens may be subject to view by library patrons of all ages.
