Do I need a library card?
Our automated computer sign-in station requires you to scan your library card to reserve a computer. If you don’t have a library card, ask for a guest pass at the Reference Desk.

Is there a time limit on using the Information Stations?
Yes, your session will be limited to 30 minutes if others are waiting. If no one is waiting, you may stay as long as you like.

Is the Internet access filtered?
Yes, our Information Stations use filters to block Web sites with content legally defined as obscene or pornographic. Users are expected to follow all Library policies for Internet Use and Access.

Additionally, all Information Stations in the Children's Room have limited access to pre-defined kid-friendly Web sites.

What if I don't know how to use the Internet?
You're in luck! We offer a comprehensive lineup of Internet classes for all levels of experience. Sign up for one of our beginners courses and you'll be surfing the Web in no time!

What software is available on the Information Stations?
Microsoft Office 2003 suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher & Access), WordPad, Internet Explorer, Adobe Reader, IrfanView graphics viewer/editor, Windows Media Player. Browser plug-ins include: Apple QuickTime, Java, Adobe Flash, Adobe Shockwave.

Can I listen to Web content on the Information Stations?
Yes, all of our computers have a sound card and audio jack. The library does not loan headphones. You may bring your own, or purchase in-ear headphones (earbuds) from the circulation desk for $1.

Can I save files on Information Stations?
If you wish to save your work, you must use your own 3.5-inch floppy disk or USB flash drive. Floppy disks can be purchased from the circulation desk for 75¢; 1-GB flash drives for $10. The library also has available for your use a 19-in-1 portable media reader if you wish to save to some other type of removable media.

I have a CD/CD-R/DVD with photos on it? May I view/print photos from the disk using your computers?
You should be able to view and print photos from a CD, CD-R, or DVD. However you will not be able to edit and save the photos back to the same disk as our computers do not have the capability to burn CDs or record DVDs.

Can I connect my device [camera, ipod, smartphone, mp3 player] to your computer?
You are allowed to connect devices such as MP3 players or digital cameras, but vendor software will not be installed. Devices must be capable of functioning independently in the Windows XP environment. Functionality is not guaranteed, and only basic troubleshooting help is provided.

Can I run programs from a CD-ROM or flash drive?
No.

Can I run anything at all that is not installed on your PCs?
